Victoria Park or “Vicky Park” as it's known locally, is London's oldest public park. Opened in 1845 for the benefit of the East End working class, “The People's Park” has a long and rich history spanning over 170 years. At 86 hectares, Victoria Park is the largest park in Tower Hamlets. The V&A covers 12.5 acres (5.1 ha) and 145 galleries. Its collection spans 5,000 years of art, from ancient history to the present day, from the cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa. However, the art of antiquity in most areas is not collected. National collections at the V&A include the art of photography, British watercolors and drawings, ceramics, fashion, furniture and woodwork, glass, jewelry, metalwork including silver, portrait miniatures, post-classical sculpture and textiles.
